You're walking through the garden when suddenly...
A bee appears.
You change direction.
She follows.
You stop.
She hovers.
"Why is this bee following me?"
The good news is that you're probably not being singled out.
Honey bees are naturally curious creatures.
If one seems to be following you, there is usually a simple explanation.
She may have noticed the scent of flowers on your clothing, your shampoo, sunscreen or perfume.
Bright colours, particularly yellow, blue and purple, can also attract her attention.
To a bee, you may simply look like another interesting flower worth investigating.
Remember, bees fly the same routes every day.
If you're standing between the hive and a patch of flowers, the bee isn't following you...
You're standing on her highway!
She'll usually fly around you and continue with her important work.
During hot weather, bees may briefly investigate perspiration.
Human sweat contains salts and moisture, both of which can be attractive to a thirsty worker bee.
Fortunately, once she realises you're not a flower, she'll usually lose interest within seconds.
In almost every case, no.
The best thing to do is remain calm and continue walking slowly.
Avoid waving your arms or trying to chase the bee away.
Remember, she has far more important things to do than bother humans.
She has a kingdom depending on her.
Perhaps she's simply reminding us to slow down long enough to notice the remarkable little lives unfolding all around us.
